Many men experience pelvic health issues and these can occur at all stages of life. The conditions explained on this page are often related to the function of the pelvic floor muscles, and so in many cases they can be successfully treated by a specialist pelvic health physiotherapist.
The male pelvic floor is a supporting sling of muscles stretching from your tailbone at the back to the pubic bone at the front. These are the muscles you can feel working if you squeeze around the back passage to stop yourself from passing wind.
A well-functioning pelvic floor is very important for your health and wellbeing but it is probably something that you rarely think about until it stops working properly. Your urethra and your anus both pass through your pelvic floor muscles. These muscles work to keep you continent, facilitate normal bowel motions, stop you passing wind at inappropriate times and they also play an important role in erectile function.
The prostate is a small gland about the size of a walnut and it sits just below your bladder and in front of your rectum. Your prostate gland is very close to your pelvic floor muscles.
All treatments offered are evidence based and in line with CPS guidelines.
